PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf as more players follow suit.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and competing on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now announced his comeback to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will be returning to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed reflects positively on his time at LIV Golf, emphasizing the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I made with the players. Family is my priority and playing closer to them is what truly matters to me. I can’t get days back.”

His win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also played a role in his decision, as he realized how much he missed competing with others.

Details of the Return

From summer, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour justified the early return by explaining that Reed had given up his membership in 2022 before committing any rule violations by playing in other tours. Starting August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. Additionally, through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary Lifetime Member, he might improve his PGA Tour status. To compete in the FedEx Cup events in the fall, he will need to qualify or rely on sponsor exemptions.

Like Brooks Koepka, who returned through the Returning Member Program, Reed will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030 as a former tour member rejoining the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf confirmed his departure in a statement, citing the lack of contract renewal but expressing gratitude for Reed’s efforts with the 4Aces Golf Club. They reaffirmed their position to support players in choosing where and when to play and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Also Returning

Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have also regained their PGA Tour memberships but still need to resolve outstanding disciplinary matters.

Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete in tournaments starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s exact return date remains under review by the Tour.
