The new LIV Golf League season starts February 4 with new players and rules. Overview of teams and all key updates.
The LIV Golf League is launching its 2026 season with an expanded competition format, new players, and revised rules, including changes in prize money and point systems.
More Holes, More Prize Money and More Points
The 2026 LIV Golf League season features 57 players, including 52 permanent team members and five wildcards, competing across 13 teams. Each team fields four professionals supplemented by wildcards who compete only in the individual competition. There will be 14 events with both team and individual rankings.
New Point System: Every Point Counts in the Prize Money Race
Every tournament now spans four days from Thursday to Sunday, with 72 holes and a shotgun start on all 18 holes. The traditional cut is eliminated, so every player competes through to the final putt. Team and individual scoring fully count toward event titles.
Team Championship: The Season Finale Showdown
The final event—the Team Championship—is a matchplay format, progressing through quarterfinals and semifinals with singles and foursomes matches. The Sunday final uses stroke play where all four team members’ scores count. The lowest total score decides the season’s team champion.
The 2026 season introduces a new comprehensive point system awarding 1,000 individual points per event, with the winner receiving 200 points. All placements earn points, replacing the previous all-or-nothing approach. In team scoring, all teams receive points, keeping competition intense until the end. Weekly team prize money doubles to $10 million, and €2.3 million is distributed weekly among top individual players on podium teams. Total prize money reaches €470 million for the season.
The league also categorizes players into Lock Zone (positions 1-34, guaranteed contracts), Open Zone (35-46, league continuation without guaranteed contracts), and Drop Zone (47-57, must requalify via relegation).
