Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are making the switch as well.
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his way back to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his PGA Tour membership in 2022 to join LIV Golf, Reed has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes his family as a key reason for returning to the PGA Tour: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I’ve made with the players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them truly matters to me. I don’t get those days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, making him realize how much he missed competing with others.
Details of the Return to the PGA Tour
He will be eligible to compete as a non-member starting summer. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any violation rules through participation in other tours occurred. Reed will be eligible to participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category beginning August 25, 2026. Additionally, he may improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.
Similar to the Returning Member Program that brought back Brooks Koepka, Reed, as a former tour member returning to the PGA Tour, will be excluded from participation in the Player Equity Program through 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, noting no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club. They also reiterated their commitment to supporting players to compete “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.
Other Former LIV Players Making a Comeback
Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have also regained their PGA Tour memberships but still have pending disciplinary matters to resolve.
Perez and Swafford are authorized to compete again starting January 1, 2027, while Na’s exact return date remains under review by the Tour.
