Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.
Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his comeback to the PGA Tour after leaving in 2022 to play on the LIV Golf Tour. He has now offered his return to the PGA Tour starting the 2027 season as a Past Champion.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am pleased to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed spoke positively of his time at LIV Golf and emphasized the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf and became a different person through the friendships I made there. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters. I can’t get days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, as he realized how much he missed competing with others.
Details of the Return
Starting in summer, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour states that his early return is due to him having resigned his membership in 2022 before any violation rules through participation in other tours occurred. From August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.
Similar to the Returning Member Program used by players like Brooks Koepka, Reed, as a former member returning to the PGA Tour, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, saying no contract renewal was reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club. They also emphasized their commitment to supporting players to compete wherever and whenever they wish, respecting Reed’s decision.
Other Former LIV Players Also Return
Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players β Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford β have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still need to address disciplinary matters. Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete again from January 1, 2027, while Kevin Naβs exact return date is still under review by the Tour.
