PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players also follow suit.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and playing on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am pleased to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed reflects positively on his time at LIV Golf and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I’ve become a different person through the friendships I’ve made with players there. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters. I don’t get those days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, reminding him how much he missed competing with others.

Details of the Return

Starting in summer, Reed will be eligible to play as a non-member. The PGA Tour attributes the early return to the fact that Reed relinquished his membership in 2022 before any breach of rules occurred due to participating in other tours. From August 25, 2026, he will compete in PGA Tour events through the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program, through which Brooks Koepka is also returning, Reed as a former Tour member rejoining the PGA Tour will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, noting no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club. They also reiterated their commitment to supporting players to compete “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Return

Reed’s comeback is not isolated. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still face unresolved disciplinary matters. Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete again starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s return date remains uncertain as the Tour continues to review his case.
