Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, ending his time with LIV Golf. Other players also make the switch.
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and competing on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will be returning to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed regarded his time at LIV positively and emphasized family priorities in his decision: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I’ve made with the players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what really matters. I don’t get days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also strengthened his decision, reminding him how much he missed competing with others.
Details of the Return
Starting summer, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour explained his early return by noting that he relinquished membership in 2022 before any rule violations due to playing on other tours occurred. From August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an Honorary Lifetime Member. To play in FedEx Cup events in the fall, he must qualify or receive sponsor exemptions.
Similar to the Returning Member Program, through which Brooks Koepka returns, Reed, as a former Tour member rejoining the PGA Tour, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, saying a contract extension was not reached but expressing gratitude for his contribution to the 4Aces Golf Club. They emphasized their support for players to play “where and when they want” and respected Reed’s decision.
More Former LIV Players Return
Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players have also made moves. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour membership but still need to resolve pending disciplinary issues.
Perez and Swafford will return to tournaments from January 1, 2027, while Na’s exact return date remains under review by the Tour.
