LIV Golf Season 2026: Complete Overview of Players, Teams, and Changes

The LIV Golf League season kicks off on February 4 with new players and rules. An overview of teams and all changes.

The LIV Golf season starts on February 4 with several changes and new faces. Along with format adjustments, prize money and point systems have been updated.

More Holes, More Prize Money and More Points

The LIV Golf League launches 2026 with an expanded competition concept. More rounds, a broader point system, and increased prize money bring notable changes to the new season. A total of 57 players, including 52 fixed team players and five wildcard players, make up the field. Distributed across 13 teams, four professionals per team compete, complemented by wildcards who contend exclusively in the individual classification. A total of 14 events will take place, featuring both team and individual rankings.

New Points System: Every Point Counts in the Fight for Prize Money

Beginning in 2026, LIV Golf introduces a comprehensive points system. Each event awards a total of 1,000 individual points, with the winner receiving 200 points. Crucially, every placement earns points, replacing the previous all-or-nothing system.

The team ranking also undergoes a paradigm shift. Whereas previously only the top 8 teams earned points, now all teams receive rewards. The winner gets 30 points, second place 15, and even the last-place team earns two points, keeping every team competitively relevant until the final day.

The economic dimension significantly grows: the weekly team prize fund doubles from five to ten million dollars. Starting in 2026, every team receives prize money based on their placement, not just the top performers. Additionally, a new individual prize money model distributes 2.3 million euros weekly among the top individual players on the podium teams. Overall, a total of 470 million euros in prize money is available this season.

Team Championship: The Grand Finale of the LIV Golf Tour

The season concludes with the 14th event, the Team Championship, devoted solely to the team title. Initially played in matchplay format, the quarterfinals and semifinals feature two singles matches (one-on-one) and a four-ball per team. Sunday is conducted in stroke play format with all four team players playing together, and all scores count. The team with the lowest overall score will be crowned the season’s team champion.
