PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making a comeback from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to compete on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively, highlighting the importance of family in his decision to return: “I loved my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I found with the players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what really matters to me. I can’t get days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour further reinforced his decision. He realized how much he missed competing against others.

Details of the Return

From summer, Reed is eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour explained his early return by confirming that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violations occurred due to participation in other tours. Starting August 25, 2026, he will compete in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also secure an improved PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program used by Brooks Koepka, Reed, as a returning former PGA Tour member, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, noting that a contract extension was not reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club. They also emphasized supporting players in playing “wherever and whenever they want” and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Returning

Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players are also making moves. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still need to resolve outstanding disciplinary matters.

While Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete from January 1, 2027, the exact return date for Kevin Na remains under review by the Tour.
