Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, marking his departure from LIV Golf, with other players also switching sides.
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his comeback to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to play on the LIV Golf Tour, he now offers his return to the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer compete on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I made with players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters to me. I can’t get days back.”
His win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour further reinforced his decision, making him realize how much he missed competing against others.
Circumstances of the Return
Starting this summer, Reed is eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violations due to participation on other tours occurred. From August 25, 2026, he will rejoin PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall requires qualification or sponsor exemptions.
Like Brooks Koepka, who is also returning through the Returning Member Program, Reed as a former tour member rejoining the PGA Tour will be excluded from participation in the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure with a statement noting no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his contribution at the 4Aces Golf Club and respecting his decision to play “where and when he wants.”
Other Former LIV Players Return
Reed’s return is not an isolated incident. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have also regained their PGA Tour memberships but still face unresolved disciplinary matters. While Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete from January 1, 2027, Kevin Na’s return date remains under review by the tour.
