DP World Tour: Two Germans Lead After Opening Round in Bahrain

The DP World Tour kicks off the week with the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Two Germans take the lead after the first round. The DP World Tour Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship has started at the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, where two German players have made their mark against the international field on day one.

Von Dellingshausen and Schott Lead the DP World Tour

Freddy Schott got off to a dream start, making six birdies in the first nine holes, including five in a row, quickly moving to the top of the leaderboard. After a double bogey at the tenth hole, he bounced back with birdies on 14 and 17 and finished with an eagle on the 18th, sharing the lead at -7 alongside Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey, who posted a flawless round with seven birdies and no bogeys.

Other DACH Players with Mixed Results

In pursuit, Nicolai von Dellingshausen impressed with birdies on holes 3, 4, 6, and 7 plus an eagle on 9, finishing at -6. Marcel Schneider delivered a mixed round with five birdies but also two bogeys and a double bogey, ending at -1. Joel Girrbach of Switzerland closed with -2 after recovering from two back-nine bogeys with birdies on 15, 16, and 18. Marcel Siem experienced ups and downs, narrowly missing a hole-in-one on the 7th and finishing at +2. Bernd Wiesberger and Maximilian Steinlechner both sit at +3.

Defending Champion Starts Strong

Last year’s winner Laurie Canter is on track to defend his title, sitting near the lead at -6 after seven birdies and one bogey. Patrick Reed, last week’s winner, announced he will not return to LIV Golf but plans a PGA Tour comeback in summer 2026; he carded a round of -1. Due to interruptions on the first day, not all players have completed their opening rounds.
