Patrick Reed is set to return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, ending his time with LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.
Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is coming back to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to join LIV Golf, Reed has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively and highlights the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I am a different person because of the friendships I’ve made with players there. Family is my priority, and being closer to them is what truly matters. I can’t get any days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also influenced his decision, making him realize how much he missed competing against others.
Details of the Return
From summer 2026, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour justifies the early return by stating that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rule violations occurred by participating in other tours. Starting August 25, 2026, he will compete in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary Lifetime Member. To participate in FedEx Cup events in the fall, he must qualify or receive sponsor exemptions.
Like Brooks Koepka, who returned through the Returning Member Program, Reed, as a former Tour member returning to the PGA Tour, is excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure with a statement, saying no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his efforts at the 4Aces Golf Club. They emphasized their support for players to compete “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.
Other Former LIV Players Also Returning
Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players are also making moves. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour membership but still have outstanding disciplinary issues to resolve.
While Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete again from January 1, 2027, Kevin Na’s exact return date is still under review by the Tour.
