PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to play on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I’m excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed looks back positively on his time at LIV, emphasizing his family as the main factor for his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I made there. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters to me. I can’t get any days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, as he realized how much he missed competing against others.

Details of the Return

Starting this summer, Reed will be eligible to play as a non-member. The PGA Tour states his early return is due to him giving up his membership in 2022 before committing any rules violations by playing on other tours. From August 25, 2026, Reed will compete in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program through which Brooks Koepka is returning, Reed, as a former Tour member rejoining the PGA Tour, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program participation until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, noting that no contract extension was reached. They expressed gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club and reiterated their stance of supporting players to play “where and when they want,” respecting Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Also Return

Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have also regained PGA Tour membership but still need to resolve pending disciplinary matters.

While Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete again starting January 1, 2027, Kevin Na’s return date remains uncertain as the Tour continues to review his situation.
