TGL: Boston Common Golf Crushes The Bay Golf Club with 9-1 Record Victory

Boston continues its dominance in the second TGL season, securing the highest win so far and leading the standings. McIlroy and Thorbjornsen shine while The Bay struggles with jetlag and penalties.

On Monday evening at the SoFi Center, Boston Common Golf clearly demonstrated their title ambitions. In Match 6 of the second TGL season, the team led by Rory McIlroy overwhelmed The Bay Golf Club with a 9-1 victory. This resounding win moves Boston to an undefeated record (2-0-0) and ties them with defending champions Atlanta Drive GC for first place in the SoFi Cup Standings. For The Bay Golf Club, the loss marks a poor start with a record of 0-2-0.

Balanced Start Turns Into Disaster

The match seemed closely contested initially, tied 1-1 after two holes. However, it soon became defined by two factors: Boston’s long drives and The Bay’s penalty strokes. The Bay lost a total of four points to Boston after finding the penalty areas on holes 1, 5, 12, and 13. Particularly bitter was losing the \”Team Hole\” on hole 9, as The Bay became the first team this season to lose their own Team Hole when Wyndham Clark missed a birdie putt from about 1.5 meters.

McIlroy and Thorbjornsen in Top Form at TGL

Boston’s side was full of highlights. Rory McIlroy broke multiple tee distance records, hitting 327 meters on hole 10 to surpass the previous record by nearly 15 meters, and setting a personal best of 326.5 meters on hole 4. McIlroy praised his young teammate: \”Michael has been a fantastic addition to the team and adapted very easily to this golf style.\” Michael Thorbjornsen showed nerves of steel on the greens, improving his singles record to 3-0-1 and securing crucial points with an eagle putt on hole 4, a birdie on hole 12, and finishing with an eagle putt from nearly 5 meters on hole 15. He said, \”I’m just having fun. I don’t really think about whether a hole is worth two points. I’m just trying to enjoy playing good golf out here.\”

Frustration and Fatigue Hit The Bay

For The Bay Golf Club, it was an evening to forget. Shane Lowry, visibly struggling with jetlag, gave insight into his condition: \”I’m pretty tired… I spent 17 hours on a plane in the last 24 hours.\” Lowry summed up his team’s mood: \”It wasn’t great, was it? We just didn’t play very well. We fell behind early and it felt like we were in a bad position most of the night for some reason.\” Despite the loss, there was a silver lining as Wyndham Clark set a new TGL record with a massive drive of nearly 340 meters on hole 6. Ultimately, the stats told the story: Boston won nine holes while The Bay could claim only one.
