TGL: Boston Common Golf Dominates The Bay Golf Club with 9-1 Record Win

Boston team continues dominance in second TGL season with biggest win so far, leading the standings. McIlroy and Thorbjörnsen shine as The Bay struggles with jetlag and penalties.

On Monday evening at the SoFi Center, Boston Common Golf impressively demonstrated their title ambitions. In Match 6 of the second TGL season, Rory McIlroy’s team swept The Bay Golf Club 9-1. With this decisive victory, Boston climbs undefeated (2-0-0) to the top of the SoFi Cup Standings, matching defending champions Atlanta Drive GC. For The Bay Golf Club, however, the loss marks a rough start to the season with a record of 0-2-0.

Even Start Turns Into Disaster

The match began evenly, tied 1-1 after two holes. However, long drives by Boston and penalty strokes suffered by The Bay soon defined the game. The Bay lost four points to Boston due to penalties at holes 1, 5, 12, and 13 when the ball entered penalty areas. Particularly harsh was losing the team hole at 9, becoming the first team in this TGL season to lose their own team hole when Wyndham Clark missed a birdie putt from about 1.5 meters.

McIlroy and Thorbjornson in Top TGL Form

Boston’s highlights kept coming. Rory McIlroy broke multiple distance records off the tee, hitting 327 meters at hole 10, surpassing the previous record by nearly 15 meters, and setting a personal best of 326.5 meters at hole 4. McIlroy praised his young teammate: \”Michael has been a fantastic addition to the team and really, really adapted easily to this golf style.\” Michael Thorbjornson again proved his calm nerves on the greens, improving his singles record to 3-0-1 and delivering crucial moments with an eagle on hole 4, a birdie on hole 12 securing a point, and finishing the match with an eagle putt from nearly 5 meters at hole 15. Thorbjornson commented, \”I’m just having fun. I don’t really think much about whether a hole is worth two points… I just try to enjoy myself and play good golf out here.\”

Frustration and Fatigue Hit The Bay

It was a night to forget for The Bay Golf Club. Shane Lowry, visibly struggling with the aftermath of travel, offered no excuses but insight into his condition: \”I’m pretty tired… I was on a plane for 17 hours in the last 24 hours.\” Lowry summed up the team’s mood: \”It wasn’t great, right? We just didn’t play well. We fell behind early… and most of the night, for some reason, it felt like we were in a bad position.\” Despite the loss, there was a small highlight for The Bay as Wyndham Clark set a new TGL record with a massive drive of nearly 340 meters on hole 6. Ultimately, statistics told a clear story: Boston won 9 holes, The Bay only 1.
