Scottie Scheffler, under 30, wins his 20th PGA Tour event with a four-shot lead at The American Express.
Scottie Scheffler starts 2026 as usual: with a victory. He secured The American Express on the PGA Tour by four strokes ahead of Jason Day, Ryan Gerard, Matt McCarty, and Andrew Putnam, achieving the milestone of 20 PGA Tour wins faster than all but one player before him. Scheffler posted a 66 in the final round to take the lead, outperforming his competitors.
PGA Tour: Scottie Scheffler Dominates The American Express
Scheffler made birdies on half of the holes in the final round and could have won by an even larger margin if he had not hit his ball into the water at the 17th island green, resulting in a double bogey. Despite this, none of his rivals matched his 66. Si Woo Kim, who led after three rounds, fell back with a 72, while 18-year-old Blades Brown, who had played a Korn Ferry Tour final event just days earlier, slipped to a tie for 18th with a 74 after being tied with Scheffler after three rounds.
Starting the year strong, Scheffler achieved his 16th consecutive top-ten finish but remains humble about his victories. “There is a reason we have to finish the tournament. You do not get the trophy at the 16th hole. You have to finish the tournament. I played today in the last group against two very talented players. Si Woo has so much talent; he’s really good at golf. I saw Blades for the first time, but anyone who makes the final flight of a PGA Tour event at 18 is doing something right. It’s a course where you have to go out and make birdies. So, there were many challenges today, but I’m proud of how we played and put together a nice round.”
