Brooks Koepka’s Farmers Insurance Open Start Official: Week of Truth Begins

LET hosts Access Series in Germany, Jason Day clarifies retirement rumors, US amateur skips Masters, and golf ball rollback delayed. The Back Nine.

Last Friday it became official: Brooks Koepka is on the final entry list for the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, ranked 246th in the world. However, he is eligible through his third PGA Championship win three years ago and the PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program, which has welcomed the five-time major winner back. Fans’ interest in seeing the 35-year-old’s first PGA Tour appearance since the 2022 Valspar Championship is expected to be high.

With this entry, Koepka’s comeback to the establishment is official. The Florida powerhouse arrived in Torrey Pines today, nervous yet eager for the week of truth and the reception he might receive. \”I know I have a lot of work to do rebuilding relationships with my peers,\” Koepka recently admitted in a phone interview. \”Some players will be happy, others will be angry about my previous LIV Golf switch.\”

\”There will probably be a mix of ‘We’re glad you’re back, welcome home’ and ‘You should not be here.’ I understand everyone’s perspective. Maybe I should have taken a year off, and I’m very thankful the Tour gave me this opportunity.\”

Players like Wyndham Clark, who is also in the field, have voiced opinions on Koepka’s return. Koepka plans to seek private conversations to mend relationships without media intrusion. \”There’s more at stake than just playing golf at Torrey Pines. I’m excited and will be glad when this first week is behind me – including dealing with players, media, and some tough conversations. But I look forward to having them,\” he said.

\”Brooks just needs to be who he was when he left. No one should expect him to change to please others. I don’t think Brooks needs to play Pro-Ams on Monday or shake hands with everyone on the range saying ‘I’m sorry.’ He’s simply coming back to play great golf. That is good for everyone.\”

The PGA Tour has expanded the field accordingly to accommodate Koepka’s return. At the Farmers, there are now 145 players including Koepka, with two alternates added to form an additional threesome, including Matt Kuchar and Justin Lower, who might owe Koepka thanks.
