Patrick Reed wins in Dubai, with Andy Sullivan second. DACH players Schneider, von Dellingshausen, Girrbach and Schott finish mid-field.
American Patrick Reed claimed the title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour at the Emirates Golf Club course in Dubai, the pearl of the Persian Gulf in the United Arab Emirates. On the final day, Reed couldn’t fully replicate his earlier success, but an even-par round was enough for the professional from San Antonio, Texas to secure the victory.
Mixed Final Round Suffices for Victory
Reed was not flawless on the front nine, recording at least one bogey. Although he balanced his earlier mistake at the 10th hole on the back nine, he struggled at the 11th hole, missing two attempts to hole the ball and ending with a bogey after missing par by four strokes. He made up for the bogey at the 13th hole. With a total of 14 under par, Reed comfortably won ahead of Frenchman Julien Guerrier, Spaniard David Puig, and Englishman Andy Sullivan. This victory propelled Reed in the Race to Dubai ranking from 107th to 2nd place.
DP World Tour: Sullivan Fights to Second Place
Andy Sullivan showed resilience in the final round, securing sole second place. The Englishman began the front nine with a disastrous four bogeys and only one birdie but recovered well on the back nine with four birdies, finishing with a 71. He birdied the 18th hole as well, clinching second place on the final stretch. Despite finishing ten under par, he was clearly behind winner Reed but was pressured until the end by third-place finishers David Puig and Julien Guerrier.
David Puig finished the final round with a 73, matching Julien Guerrier at nine under par overall. Guerrier improved seven places on the leaderboard with a strong 69 in the final round.
DACH Players Finish Mid-Field
The four DACH players who made the cut on Friday placed in the mid to lower mid-field positions. Marcel Schneider concluded the final day with a 74, dropping 14 places to tie for 33rd, sharing that spot with DP World Tour favorite Rory McIlroy, who closed Sunday with a 73 and fell six spots. Nicolai von Dellingshausen finished the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at two under par, tied for 33rd place.
Freddy Schott and Swiss Joel Girrbach landed tied at 49th with one over par each. Schott’s final round included five bogeys and three birdies for a 74, mirrored by Girrbach’s identical round. Both players slightly improved in the Race to Dubai standings, although Schott is currently ranked 103rd early in the season.
