After his win in Dubai, Patrick Reed faces a decision: His LIV Golf contract is still open, with the season start in Riyadh approaching.
At a press conference following his victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed commented on his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. Reed, who has played for the 4Aces GC team since June 2022, was asked whether he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in Riyadh in early February, as he had previously been evasive. Initially, Reed said he should be ready for the next LIV Golf season, prompting further questions at the event.
LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed
It emerged that the 35-year-old has not yet extended his contract with LIV Golf and aims to finalize details with the Saudi league within the roughly two-week window before the LIV Golf Riyadh event from February 4 to 7. \”We are still working on the contract details,\” Reed said, adding, \”We are not finished yet.\”

Reed stated he prefers not to discuss business matters during tournament play: \”I don’t like talking about business or such during play. That’s why Monday to Wednesday is the only time to talk about it,\” he added. \”When I came here this week, I knew that from Thursday on I’d fully focus on golf. Starting this evening and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.\”
Patrick Reed: \”At the Moment, I Plan to Play in Riyadh\”
Reed is also entered in the next DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite uncertainty, he expects to renew his contract: \”I haven’t spoken with the team at home or anything yet,\” Reed said. \”But at the moment, I plan to compete in Riyadh, and I would be surprised if we don’t.\”
Over four years with LIV Golf, Reed placed three times in the top seven overall and earned his first individual victory on the LIV Golf Tour in Dallas last season. Simultaneously, he remained active outside the league: last year, he played in 18 Official World Golf Ranking events, up from ten the previous year outside LIV. Ten of those were on the DP World Tour, where Reed holds a lifetime membership — despite ongoing fines due to his LIV involvement. Earlier this week, Reed indicated he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to stay active on the DP World Tour.
