Brooks Koepka’s Week of Truth Begins at the Farmers Insurance Open

Last Friday it became official: Brooks Koepka is on the final entry list for the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, between Jake Knapp and Matt Kuchar. Ranked only 246th in the world but eligible due to his third PGA Championship victory three years ago and the PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program, which welcomed the five-time major winner back and has even featured him in advertisements. Fans’ interest in the 35-year-old Floridian’s first PGA Tour appearance since the 2022 Valspar Championship is understandably high.

With this official entry, Koepka’s comeback to the establishment is confirmed. The big player from Florida travels today to Torrey Pines, feeling mostly one thing: quite nervous about the week of truth—or rather eager to see the reception. “I know I have a lot of work to do rebuilding relationships with my colleagues. I know I upset quite a few people with my LIV switch,” Koepka recently admitted in a phone interview. “There are definitely players who are happy and definitely some who will be angry.”


“There’s probably a mix of ‘We’re glad you’re back, welcome home’ and ‘You shouldn’t be here.’ I understand everyone’s perspective. Maybe I should have taken a year off, and I’m very thankful the Tour gave me this opportunity.”

Wyndham Clark, who is also in the field, criticized Koepka’s PGA Tour return. “If someone’s upset, I have to rebuild those relationships,” the returnee said. He intends to seek contact and hold private conversations away from media scrutiny. “There’s much more going on at Torrey Pines than just playing golf. I’m excited and will be glad when this first week is behind me—with dealing with players, media, and some of the tougher conversations. But I look forward to having those talks.”
