After his Dubai win, Patrick Reed faces a decision: his LIV Golf contract is still open as the Riyadh season opener approaches.
At a press conference following his victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed commented on his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League. Reed was asked whether he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in Riyadh in early February, after giving evasive answers before. Since June 2022, Reed has played for LIV Golf’s 4Aces GC team. Initially, Reed said he should be “ready” for the next LIV Golf season, which prompted a more detailed inquiry at the press conference.
LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed
The 35-year-old has not yet renewed his LIV Golf contract and aims to finalize details with the Saudi-backed league in the next approximately two weeks before the LIV Golf Riyadh event from February 4 to 7. “We are still working on the contract details,” Reed said, adding, “We are not done yet.”

Reed explained that he prefers not to discuss business matters during tournament play: “I do not like to talk about business or anything like that while I’m competing. That’s why Monday to Wednesday are the only days to talk about it,” he added. “When I came here this week, I knew that starting Thursday I would only focus on golf. From tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.”

Reed is also part of the field at the next DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, Reed expects to renew his contract: “I haven’t discussed this with the team at home yet,” he said. “But at the moment, I’m planning to play in Riyadh and would be surprised if we don’t.”
In four years at LIV Golf, Reed finished three times in the top seven overall and recorded his first individual LIV Golf Tour victory last season in Dallas. Simultaneously, he remained active outside the league: last year, he played 18 Official World Golf Ranking events, up from just ten the previous year outside of LIV. Ten of those starts were on the DP World Tour, of which Reed is a lifetime member—despite ongoing fines due to his LIV affiliation. Reed mentioned earlier this week that he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
