After his Dubai win, Patrick Reed faces a decision as his LIV Golf contract remains unsigned and the season opener in Riyadh approaches.
Following his victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed spoke about his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League. When asked if he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in Riyadh in early February, Reed, who has played for LIV Golf’s 4Aces GC team since June 2022, initially stated he should be ready for the next LIV Golf season but was pressed for clearer answers during the press conference.

The 35-year-old revealed he has not yet extended his contract with LIV Golf and aims to finalize the details with the Saudi league within about two weeks before the season kickoff event, LIV Golf Riyadh, from February 4 to 7. \”We’re still working on the contract details,\” Reed said, adding that the process is not yet complete.

Reed noted he prefers not to focus on business during tournament play and that Monday to Wednesday are the only times for such discussions. \”When I came here this week, I knew that starting Thursday, I would focus solely on golf,\” he said. \”Starting tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.\”
Patrick Reed Plans to Compete in Riyadh
Patrick Reed is also set to compete in the next DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, Reed expects to renew his contract. \”I haven’t yet spoken with my team at home, but at the moment, I plan to compete in Riyadh and would be surprised if we do not,\” he said.
Throughout his four years with LIV Golf, Reed placed three times in the top seven of the overall rankings and secured his first individual LIV Golf victory last season in Dallas. Concurrently, he remained active outside the league, participating in 18 world ranking events last year compared to only ten outside LIV the previous year. Ten of those tournaments were on the DP World Tour, where Reed holds a lifetime membership despite ongoing fines due to his LIV involvement. Earlier this week, Reed mentioned his willingness to pay whatever is necessary to continue competing on the DP World Tour.
