DP World Tour Winner Patrick Reed Has Not Yet Renewed LIV Golf Contract

After his win in Dubai, Patrick Reed faces a decision: His LIV Golf contract is still open as the season opener in Riyadh approaches.

At a press conference following his victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed spoke about his future with the Saudi-backed golf league LIV Golf. Reed, who has been playing since June 2022 with the LIV Golf team 4Aces GC, was asked if he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in Riyadh in early February, as he had previously been evasive. Initially, Reed said he should be ‘ready’ for the next LIV Golf season, prompting further questions.

LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed

It emerged that the 35-year-old has not yet extended his LIV Golf contract and aims to finalize details with the Saudi league within about two weeks before the LIV Golf Riyadh event from February 4 to 7. ‘We are still working on the contract details,’ Reed said, ‘We are not done yet.’

Reed explained that he prefers not to discuss business during tournaments: ‘I don’t like to talk about business or similar matters while playing. That’s why Monday to Wednesday is the only time to discuss them.’ He added, ‘When I came here this week, I knew from Thursday onward, I would focus solely on golf. From tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.’

Patrick Reed Plans to Play in Riyadh for Now

Patrick Reed is also set to compete in the upcoming DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, Reed expects to extend his contract: ‘I haven’t spoken to the team at home yet or anything,’ he said. ‘But for now, I plan to play in Riyadh, and I’d be surprised if we don’t.’

In four years at LIV Golf, Reed finished three times in the top seven overall and celebrated his first individual LIV Golf victory last season in Dallas. Outside the league, he remained active; last year, he played 18 Official World Golf Ranking events, up from just ten the previous year. Ten of these were on the DP World Tour, where Reed holds lifetime membership, despite ongoing fines for his LIV involvement. Earlier this week, Reed stated he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
