After his Dubai victory, Patrick Reed faces a decision as his LIV Golf contract remains open and the Riyadh season start approaches.
At a press conference following his win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed spoke about his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. Questions arose about whether Reed would take part in LIV Golf’s season opener in early February in Riyadh, as he had previously given evasive answers. Reed, who has played for LIV Golf’s 4Aces GC team since June 2022, initially said he \”should be ready\” for the next LIV Golf season, prompting further questions during the press event.
LIV Golf Contract Remains Unrenewed
It emerged that the 35-year-old has not yet extended his contract with LIV Golf and aims to finalize the details with the Saudi league within a short window of about two weeks, ahead of the LIV Golf Riyadh tournament from February 4 to 7. \”We are still working on the details of the contract,\” Reed said, adding, \”We are not finished yet.\”

Reed explained that he prefers not to focus on business matters during tournaments: \”I don’t like talking business or similar topics while I’m playing. That’s why Monday to Wednesday is the only time to talk about it,\” Reed added. \”When I came here this week, I knew that from Thursday on, I’d focus only on golf. From tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.\”
Patrick Reed: \”I Currently Plan to Compete in Riyadh\”
Patrick Reed is also entered in the upcoming DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, Reed expects to renew his contract: \”I have not yet spoken with my team at home or anything,\” he said. \”But at the moment, I plan to compete in Riyadh, and I would be surprised if we do not.\”
In four years with LIV Golf, Reed has finished three times among the top seven in the overall standings, celebrating his first LIV Golf Tour individual win last season in Dallas. At the same time, he remained active outside the league: last year, he played 18 Official World Golf Ranking events, up from only ten outside LIV the year before. Ten of these were on the DP World Tour, where Reed holds lifetime membership—despite ongoing fines due to his LIV involvement. Reed mentioned earlier in the week that he is ready to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
