After his Dubai win, Patrick Reed faces a decision as his LIV Golf contract remains unsigned ahead of Riyadh season opener.
At a press conference following his victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed spoke about his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. Reed, who has been playing for LIV Golf’s 4Aces GC team since June 2022, was asked whether he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in Riyadh in early February, as he had been evasive on the subject before. Reed initially said he should be \”ready\” for the next LIV Golf season, prompting further questioning during the press conference.
LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed
It emerged that the 35-year-old has not yet renewed his contract with LIV Golf and wants to finalize the details with the Saudi league within a short remaining timeframe of about two weeks before the LIV Golf Riyadh event from February 4 to 7. \”We’re still working on the details of the contract,\” Reed said, adding, \”We are not finished yet.\”

Reed explained he avoids business discussions during tournaments: \”I don’t like to talk business or the like while I’m playing. That’s why Monday to Wednesday are the only times to talk about it,\” Reed added. \”When I arrived here this week, I knew that from Thursday on, I would focus only on golf. From tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other things again.\”
Patrick Reed: \”For Now, I Plan to Play in Riyadh\”
Reed is also in the field for the next DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, he expects to extend his contract: \”I haven’t talked to my team at home or anything,\” Reed said. \”But for now, I plan to play in Riyadh, and I’d be surprised if we don’t.\”
In four years with LIV Golf, Reed finished in the top seven of the overall standings three times and claimed his first individual win on the LIV Golf Tour last season in Dallas. Parallel to the league, he remained active elsewhere: Last year, he played 18 tournaments counting towards the Official World Golf Ranking, compared to only ten starts outside LIV the previous year. Ten of those were on the DP World Tour, of which Reed is a lifetime member—despite ongoing fines due to his LIV commitments. Reed mentioned earlier this week that he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
