At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship of the Champions Tour held at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on the Hawaiian volcanic island of Hawaii, American Stewart Cink emerged victorious and claimed the trophy. The two German players, Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka, both moved close to the Top 10 on the leaderboard after three rounds.
Champions Tour: Stewart Cink dominates in Hawaii
Stewart Cink started strong on Thursday with a 66, positioning himself early near the top of the leaderboard. Although he had a bogey on hole 16 during his second round, he bounced back with an impressive 63 on Friday, including ten birdies. A final round 64 secured his win at 23-under-par total, topping the leaderboard.
Following Cink was Argentinian Ángel Cabrera who impressed with an eagle during the final round and carded a 66. Cabrera moved up securely to third place after a strong second day and shot an outstanding 62 on Friday. The 56-year-old from Córdoba province completed the front nine flawlessly with five birdies and an eagle, while the back nine included five birdies and two bogeys. Despite finishing three strokes behind Cink, Cabrera held on to second place with a two-stroke lead over South African Retief Goosen.
Bernhard Langer solidly climbs into Top 10
Bernhard Langer steadily moved up the leaderboard during the Hawaii tournament. He began with a 70 on Thursday, placing him mid-field. On day two, he made seven birdies and an eagle, with only one bogey at hole 15, finishing with a solid 64 at eight under par. This gave him confidence for the final round, where a 68 moved him up two more spots to finish ninth overall at 14 under par.
German pro Alex Cejka, born in Czech Republic, also approached the Top 10. After rounds of 68 and 70 on Thursday and Friday, he stood 24th before the final day. The 55-year-old from Mariánské Lázně surged twelve places with a 66 in the last round, concluding the tournament at
