While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend cut at the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express at the PGA Tour, held across three courses of PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Because the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express occurs only after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss the Cut
Matti Schmid started at the La Quinta Country Club and faced two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on hole 4 and found his form with a birdie on hole 5 on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but Schmid had to endure two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 couldn’t lift him out of trouble, ending the day with a 77-round. He fell back significantly on the leaderboard and with three under par could not stay in the tournament.
Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger started the third day on the Nicklaus Tournament Course and carded a solid 70 with five birdies, a bogey, and a double bogey. Although he had a strong 66 in the previous round, a total of nine under par was not enough to make the cut, which stood at eleven under par.
Sepp Straka Also Falls Short for the Weekend
Also, Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka struggled to find his game at the tournament. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were rather average. He improved on the third day with a 68 and four under par, but finished the tournament at two under par overall—well short of the cutline.
Scheffler and Brown Remain Within Reach
Although Si Woo Kim slightly aggravated his personal tournament average with a 66 on the third day, he positioned himself at the top of the leaderboard with 22 under par. He is closely followed by Blades Brown and the world number one Scottie Scheffler, who had shared first place on Friday. Both Americans had to settle for their weakest rounds of the tournament with 68 on Saturday (four under par). Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark are closely behind the runners-up with scores of 66 and 20 under par, respectively.
