PGA Tour: DACH Players Miss Cut While Si Woo Kim Leads at The American Express

While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend cut on the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.

On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played over three different courses, the cut is made after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.

PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss the Cut

Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course but suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on hole 4 and found some rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 of the front nine. The rest of the front nine remained error-free; however, on the back nine, Schmid had to endure two more bogeys. Even a birdie on hole 11 couldn’t lift him out of his slump, ending the third day with a 77-round. He dropped significantly on the leaderboard and could not stay in the tournament with a total of three under par.

Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger played the third day on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, carding five birdies, one bogey, and a double bogey for a solid 70-round. Despite a strong 66-round the previous day, his total of nine under par was not enough to make the cut, which was set at eleven under par.

Sepp Straka Also Falls Short for the Weekend

Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka struggled to find form during the tournament. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were rather average. On the third day, he improved with a 68-round (four under par) but finished the tournament at two under par overall, clearly missing the cut line.

Scheffler and Brown Remain in Contention

Despite Si Woo Kim slightly worsening his personal tournament average with a 66-round on day three, he took the top spot on the leaderboard at 22 under par. Closely trailing Kim at 21 under par are Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who had shared first place on Friday. Both Americans posted their weakest rounds of the tournament on Saturday with scores of 68 (four under par). Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark lurk just behind in the leaderboard with 66 strokes each, standing at 20 under par.
