While Schmid, Jäger and Straka miss the weekend cut at the PGA Tour event, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, the players who made the cut were finally decided. Since the tournament is played over three different courses, the cut at The American Express comes after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss Cut
Matti Schmid started his round at the La Quinta Country Club and struggled early with two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly recovered with a bogey on hole 4 and found some rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 of the front nine. The rest of the front nine was bogey-free, but Schmid endured two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not pull him out of his slump, and he finished the third round with a 77, dropping significantly on the leaderboard and failing to hold his position at three under par overall.
Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger started on the Nicklaus Tournament Course and posted a solid 70 with five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. Despite a strong 66 on the previous day, his total of nine under par did not meet the cut line, which stood at eleven under par.
Sepp Straka Also Falls Short of Weekend
Austria’s Ryder Cup winner of 2025, Sepp Straka, also struggled to find form during the tournament. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were average, but he improved somewhat on Saturday with a 68, four under par. Still, his total of two under par was well short of the cut line.
Kim Leads; Scheffler and Brown in Contention
Although Si Woo Kim slightly dipped from his personal best with a 66 on day three, he secured the top spot on the leaderboard at 22 under par. Close behind him at 21 under par are Blades Brown and World Number One Scottie Scheffler, who had shared first place on Friday. Both Americans posted their tournament-low rounds on Saturday with 68s, four under par, marking their weakest rounds so far. Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark sit just behind them with rounds of 66 and
