At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship of the Champions Tour held at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on the Hawaiian volcanic island of Hawaii, American Stewart Cink triumphed and took home the trophy. The two German starters, Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka, positioned themselves close to the Top 10 on the leaderboard after three rounds.
Champions Tour: Stewart Cink Dominates in Hawaii
Stewart Cink opened on Thursday with a 66, placing early near the top of the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on the 16th hole in his second round, he secured an outstanding 63 on Friday with a total of ten birdies. On the final day, Cink shot a 64, finishing at 23 under par to claim the top spot on the leaderboard.
Following him on the leaderboard was Argentine Ángel Cabrera, who impressed with an eagle in the final round but finished with a 66 including five birdies and one bogey. Cabrera posed a serious challenge on day two, moving confidently into third place. With an impressive 62 on Friday, the 56-year-old from Córdoba province played flawlessly on the front nine with five birdies and an eagle. He added another five birdies on the back nine but incurred two bogeys on holes 11 and 17. Despite finishing three strokes behind leader Stewart Cink, Cabrera secured second place two strokes ahead of South African Retief Goosen.
Bernhard Langer Solidly Advances into Top 10
Bernhard Langer gradually worked his way into the Top 10 during the Hawaii tournament. He started Thursday with a 70, placing him in the middle of the field. On the second day, Langer achieved seven birdies and one eagle, with just one bogey on hole 15. His very solid 64 on that day, eight under par, gave him confidence heading into the final round. On the last day, Langer improved two places with a 68 and finished ninth overall at 14 under par.
