Stewart Cink wins at Champions Tour in Hawaii – Bernhard Langer in Top 10

Bernhard Langer reaches Top 10, Alex Cejka impresses on final day as Stewart Cink claims victory in Hawaii.

At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship on the Champions Tour at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on the Hawaiian volcanic island of Hawaii, American Stewart Cink secured the trophy. The two German participants, Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka, moved close to the Top 10 on the leaderboard after three rounds.

Champions Tour: Stewart Cink dominates in Hawaii

Stewart Cink started on Thursday with a 66, placing himself early in the top ranks of the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on hole 16 in his second round, he delivered an outstanding 63 with ten birdies on Friday. With a 64 in the final round and a total of 23 under par, Cink shone at the very top of the leaderboard.

Following him on the leaderboard was Argentine Ángel Cabrera, who impressed with an eagle in the final round but shot a 66 overall with five birdies and one bogey. On the second day, Cabrera played very strong, advancing confidently to third place on the leaderboard. With a remarkable 62 on Friday, the 56-year-old from Córdoba province completed the front nine flawlessly, starting the day with five birdies and an eagle. On the back nine, Cabrera also recorded five birdies but took bogeys on holes 11 and 17. Despite finishing three shots behind leader Stewart Cink, Cabrera securely held second place with a two-shot lead over South African Retief Goosen.

Bernhard Langer works steadily into Top 10

Bernhard Langer steadily moved up into the Top 10 on Hawaii during the tournament. He started with a 70 on Thursday, ranking in the middle field. On the second day, Langer made seven birdies and an eagle while only taking one bogey on hole 15. His solid 64 round, eight under par, gave him confidence going into the final round. On the last day, Langer improved two more places with a 68, finishing ninth overall at 14 under par.

Also, German professional golfer of Czech origin Alex Cejka came close to Top 10. He opened with a 68 on Thursday and 70 on Friday, ranking 24th before the final day. On Saturday, the 55-year-old from Mariánské Lázně (today’s Czech Republic) climbed twelve spots with a 66 and ended the tournament at 12th place, twelve under par overall.
