At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship on the Champions Tour held at Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on Hawaii’s volcanic island, American Stewart Cink secured the trophy. The two German players, Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka, finished near the Top 10 after three rounds.
Champions Tour: Stewart Cink dominates in Hawaii
Stewart Cink started strong with a 66 on Thursday, positioning himself early near the top of the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on hole 16 in the second round, he delivered an impressive 63 with ten birdies on Friday. He capped off the tournament with a 64 on the final day, finishing with a total of 23 under par to claim first place.
Argentinian Ángel Cabrera followed Cink on the leaderboard. Despite a bogey, Cabrera impressed with five birdies and an eagle during the final round, shooting a 66. He had a strong second day to move up to third place and maintained consistency with a 62 on Friday. The 56-year-old from Córdoba province started perfectly with five birdies and an eagle on the front nine. On the back nine, Cabrera made five birdies but also two bogeys on holes 11 and 17. He finished securely in second, three strokes behind Cink and two ahead of South African Retief Goosen.
Bernhard Langer steadily moves into Top 10
Bernhard Langer steadily climbed into the Top 10 during the Hawaii tournament. He began with a mid-field 70 on Thursday. On day two, he recorded seven birdies and an eagle, with only one bogey on hole 15. His solid 64 on Friday, eight under par, set him up well for the final day. With a 68 on the last round, he gained two more places and finished ninth at 14 under par overall.
German pro golfer of Czech origin Alex Cejka also approached the Top 10. After a 68 on Thursday and 70 on Friday, he was 24th before the final round. The 55-year-old from Marienbad (now Czech Republic) surged twelve places with a 66 on Saturday and finished 12th at 12 under par.
