DP World Tour: DACH Players Fall Short Before Weekend at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

German-speaking players struggled on the second day of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Several players missed the cut.

After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74 and dropped from fifth place the day before to the middle of the field. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider was unable to shoot under par compared to the previous day and posted a round of 1 over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, scoring 77 and only just making the cut despite his strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the top stars struggled in Dubai. Rory McIlroy matched Von Dellingshausen with a 70, and Tommy Fleetwood narrowly made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after the first two days with a score of 9 under par.

Triple Bogey Dashes Von Dellingshausen’s Hopes

On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round under difficult windy conditions, positioning himself for a possible top result this week. However, that chance slipped away early Friday when he hit a triple bogey on the third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and his subsequent attempt to recover went out of bounds, forcing him to take a drop. Things did not improve as he only finished the par 4 13th hole in seven strokes. Nevertheless, he recovered somewhat, scoring three birdies on the back nine to bring his score to even par after the first nine holes. His front nine faltered with three bogeys in a row from holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the final 9th hole left him with a 2-over-par round, dropping him to 33rd place.

Joel Girrbach had an even tougher day after starting T3 following his 68 on the previous day. He began well with a birdie on his first hole but didn’t score another birdie after that. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 brought him to +1 after the back nine. Unfortunately, his front nine saw a sharp decline with four more bogeys and no birdies, leading to a total score of 5 over par and a fall to 60th place, just making it inside the cut.

DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 Provides a Silver Lining for Marcel Siem

Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday was difficult until the very last hole when he shot a 76 and ended in 82nd place, missing the cut for the weekend. After four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine, his performance looked bleak early on. Bogeys on holes 12 and 15 followed on the back nine. However, Siem demonstrated his skill on the par-5 18th hole with a near albatross, just missing by two meters. He rewarded himself with an eagle putt, improving his score slightly to
