DP World Tour: DACH Players Struggle to Make the Cut at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

Players from the German-speaking region struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Several missed the cut.

After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74 and dropped from fifth place the previous day to the middle of the pack. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider also failed to stay under par compared to the previous day, shooting a round of one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, scoring a 77 and just making the cut despite his strong Thursday round. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. The stars also struggled in Dubai, with Rory McIlroy shooting a 70 and matching Von Dellingshausen, while Tommy Fleetwood only just made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after the first two days with a score of nine under par.

Triple bogey ruins Von Dellingshausen’s chances to climb

On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round under difficult windy conditions, putting himself in position for a possible top result this week. However, that opportunity faded early on Friday after a triple bogey on his third hole of the day. His drive landed in a bunker, and his subsequent attempt to get out resulted in a shot out of bounds, forcing a drop. His troubles continued, and he only finished the par 4, 13th hole on his seventh stroke. He managed to recover somewhat with three birdies on the back nine to bring his score back to even par for those nine holes, but his front nine did not improve. He made three consecutive bogeys on holes 5 to 7 and finished with a birdie on the ninth hole, ending two over par and dropping to 33rd place.

Joel Girrbach fared even worse. Starting the day tied for third after shooting 68 the previous day, he birdied the first hole but did not record another birdie throughout the round. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left him at +1 after the back nine, and a disastrous front nine with four more bogeys led to a final score of five over par. This dropped the 32-year-old Swiss player to 60th place, barely making the cut.

DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 a small consolation for Marcel Siem

Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday was challenging with no birdies and multiple bogeys, culminating in a 76 that placed him 82nd and missing the cut
