DP World Tour: DACH Players Struggle on Day 2 at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

Players from German-speaking countries struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, with several missing the cut.

After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for the golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place the day before to the middle of the field. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74, while Marcel Schneider was unable to stay under par compared to the previous day, shooting one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, posting a 77 and just barely making the cut despite a strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai: Rory McIlroy shot a 70, tied with Von Dellingshausen, and Tommy Fleetwood barely made the cut. Leading after the first two rounds is Patrick Reed with a score of nine under par.

Triple Bogey Ends Von Dellingshausen’s Chances to Move Up

On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round in challenging wind conditions, positioning himself for a possible top result this week. However, this opportunity slipped away early on Friday when he made a triple bogey on his third hole. His drive landed in the bunker, and the subsequent attempt to escape resulted in the ball going out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things did not improve as he took seven strokes to finish the par-4 13th hole. He managed to recover somewhat with three birdies on the back nine, bringing his score to even par after the first nine holes. The front nine proved tougher with three consecutive bogeys from holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the 9th hole left him two over par, dropping him to 33rd place.

Joel Girrbach faced an even tougher day. After shooting a 68 on the previous day and starting T3, he began well with a birdie on the first hole. However, it was his only birdie of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 saw him at +1 after the back nine. On the front nine, things fell apart with four more bogeys and no birdies, ending with a total score of five over par and dropping him to 60th place, just barely inside the cut.

DP World Tour: Marcel Siem’s Eagle on 18 a Silver Lining

Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, nothing went right for him on Friday until the final hole. He ended with a 76, placing 82nd and missing the cut for the weekend. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine foreshadowed a difficult day. On the back nine, bogeys on 12 and 15 added to his woes. Yet Siem showed his skill when he flawlessly played the par-5 18th hole, narrowly missing an albatross by just two meters. He still managed to sink an eagle putt, improving his round to a 76.
