Golf World Ranking: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Germany’s Top Player

Matti Schmid begins 2026 as the highest-ranked German golfer in the world rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season starts, we take a look at the rankings of German players. Matti Schmid leads as the best German at rank 92 and is the only German player in the top 100. In contrast, Stephan Jäger lost points compared to last year and fell from rank 52 to 114.

The best German player not competing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen at rank 193. Marcel Siem has already improved his standing after a T14 finish at the Dubai Invitational in mid-January, placing him at 257. Marcel Schneider and Thomas Rosenmüller are also in the top 300, at ranks 243 and 276 respectively.

Sepp Straka in the Top 15

The highest-ranked player from the German-speaking region is Sepp Straka, currently ranked 12th. Despite a quieter end to the year due to family issues, his previous results position him well to challenge for a top 10 spot again in the coming year.

Scottie Scheffler Clearly Leading

The undisputed world number one remains Scottie Scheffler, holding over 200 points lead ahead of second-ranked Rory McIlroy. The top five is rounded out by England’s Tommy Fleetwood along with Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
