With a strong team performance and a historic moment by Justin Rose, the Los Angeles team triumphs over New York.
On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) saw the New York Jupiter Links Golf Club (featuring Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) face off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (with Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala). The match was highlighted by the first-ever albatross in TGL history. It was only during the second phase, the singles, that Los Angeles clearly secured the match victory.
Triples Phase: Early Hammer Puts Los Angeles Ahead
During the second hole of the first phase, known as triples, the Los Angeles Golf Club threw the first hammer and secured two points there. On the fifth hole, Jupiter Links Golf Club threw their first hammer, earning a crucial point. Los Angeles extended their lead with another point on the following sixth hole. After the ninth hole, Los Angeles ended the triples phase with a bogey and a score of 4:1, as Jupiter Links incurred a penalty stroke on the final triples hole.
In the singles phase, momentum swung strongly in Los Angeles’ favor. Justin Rose began the tenth hole (Par 5) with a driver, hitting a confident 300-meter drive down the fairway. Max Homa of the opposing team followed with a solid but shorter drive, and his second shot landed just short of the green, giving New York a good chance to claw back points.
Historic Moment: Justin Rose Scores TGL’s First Albatross
Then, on the tenth hole, Justin Rose made history with a stunning albatross from 210 meters using a 4-iron, thrilling the fans and effectively blowing the sails out of New York’s comeback hopes. Even Tiger Woods smiled and noted he had never achieved an albatross in his career. This shot pushed Los Angeles’ lead to 5:1.
