Golf World Rankings: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Top German

Matti Schmid begins 2026 as the highest-ranked German golfer in the world rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season kicks off, we look at how German players are ranked heading into the year. Matti Schmid is the best German at rank 92 and the only German player in the top 100. Stephan Jäger, who was ranked 52 at the beginning of last year, lost points and now sits at rank 114.

The best German not playing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen at rank 193. Marcel Siem improved his position after finishing T14 at the Dubai Invitational in mid-January and currently holds rank 257. Additionally, Marcel Schneider is ranked 243 and Thomas Rosenmüller 276, both inside the top 300.

Sepp Straka Among Top 15

The highest-ranked player from the German-speaking region is Sepp Straka, currently at rank 12. Despite taking it easy late last year due to family issues, his previous results set him up to challenge the top 10 of the world rankings again in the coming year.

Scottie Scheffler Leading by a Wide Margin

The undisputed world number one remains Scottie Scheffler, leading by over 200 points ahead of second-ranked Rory McIlroy. The top five is completed by England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
