Chris Gotterup wins the Sony Open in Hawaii against a strong field, securing his third PGA Tour title.
Strong Final Round Secures Third PGA Tour Win
Chris Gotterup began 2026 with a victory at the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawaii. With a final round of 6-under 64 and a two-stroke lead, the American secured his third Tour title. Gotterup initially benefited from a collapse by 54-hole leader Davis Riley but sealed his win with crucial birdies on the closing holes at Waialae Country Club.
Starting the final day two shots behind, Gotterup was initially chasing Davis Riley. While many players posted low rounds, Gotterup applied early pressure with strong tee shots and good putting, making four birdies on the front nine.
\”I just felt like I was in good shape this week and I’m happy to be here,\” Gotterup said after his round. \”I felt like I had my thoughts under control, which is the most important part. I hit good drives and made some big putts.\”
\”Part of the caddie job is part-time therapist.\”

Riley’s Collapse Opens the Door
Davis Riley initially defended his two-stroke lead confidently, making two birdies on the first five holes. However, his round quickly fell apart as three long putts on holes six and seven led to bogeys, followed by a wayward tee shot on hole eight resulting in a double bogey. A comfortable lead turned into a deficit within a few holes, which Riley could not recover from. He finished the tournament at 11-under, tied for sixth place.
This turn of events played into Gotterup’s favor. Long putts on holes 12 and 13 earned him further birdies and extended his lead. He sealed the victory on the par-3 17th hole with a precise tee shot landing between the flag and bunker, followed by a birdie, finishing the tournament at 16-under and two strokes clear.
