Chris Gotterup wins the Sony Open in Hawaii against strong competition, securing his third PGA Tour title.
Strong Final Round Secures Third PGA Tour Title
Chris Gotterup kicked off 2026 with a victory at the PGA Tour during the Sony Open in Hawaii. With a final round of -6 (64) and a two-stroke lead, the American secured his third Tour win. Gotterup initially benefited from a collapse by 54-hole leader Davis Riley but managed to make crucial birdies in the closing holes at Waialae Country Club.
Starting the final day two strokes behind, Gotterup was in pursuit with Davis Riley ahead. As many players posted low rounds, Gotterup applied early pressure with strong drives and solid putts, birdying four of the first nine holes.
\”I just felt like I was in a good place this week and I’m happy to be here,\” Gotterup said after his round. \”I felt in control of my thoughts, which is the most important thing. I hit good drives and made some key putts.\”

Riley’s Collapse Opened the Door
Davis Riley initially defended his two-stroke lead confidently, posting two birdies in the first five holes to stay ahead. However, his round faltered quickly with three long putts on holes six and seven resulting in bogeys, followed by a wild tee shot on eight leading to a double bogey. A comfortable lead turned into a deficit within a few holes, which Riley never recovered from. He finished the tournament at -11, tied for sixth place.
This shift benefited Gotterup, who made crucial long putts on holes 12 and 13 to extend his lead. He sealed the win on the par-3 17th hole with a perfect tee shot between the flag and bunker, followed by a birdie, finishing at -16, two strokes clear.
