Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land: A Sanctuary Leaving Nothing to Desire

The splendid ensemble in Germany’s green heart of Thuringia is like the ultimate stage. A third golf course is soon to come.

It is said that every room breathes the spirit of its owner. Rarely is the signature of the owners so clearly felt as in the Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land. Located just 20 minutes by car from the Goethe, Schiller, and Bauhaus city of Weimar, the Grafe family has established a refuge where even the smallest detail speaks of quality and the style of its founders.

A Distinctive Touch of Personal Hospitality

This note of personal hospitality shapes the atmosphere throughout the resort: from the 94 rooms and suites of the hotel and the seven family residences to the LindenSpa wellness area, expanded in 2023 to 3,000 square meters with high-end offerings, and the resort’s seven restaurants.

Seven Restaurants, Two with Michelin Stars

The Masters, led by Executive Chef Danny Schwabe, and The First by Marcello Fabbri, each shine with a Michelin star for their French-inspired and Italian haute cuisine, making Weimarer Land quite unique. The Güldene Zopf in nearby Blankenhain focuses solely on Thuringian specialties. Every January, Grafe hosts the Culinary Open, a walking dinner gathering renowned chefs annually.

Goethe and Feininger Courses Each with 18 Holes

Project architect Achim Reinmuth of Städler & Reinmuth Golf Design first shaped the original 18 holes of what is now the Bobby Jones Champion-Course into the lovely Thuringian landscape once walked by Germany’s poet Goethe 200 years ago. By 2012, the two 9-hole loops evolved into the wooded, artfully bunkered Goethe Course (5,971 meters, Par 72) nestled in the Weimar hills and the rather flat Feininger Course (5,707 meters, Par 71) with numerous water hazards and intricately contoured greens. The original (6,280 meters, Par 73) remains for major tournaments.

Parallel to this, the resort complex rose from the ruins of the former Slavic farm Gut Krakau and its stables: the hotel in traditional farmyard style, the charmingly modest \”GolfHütte\” housing the golf reception, pro shop, and restaurant on the ground floor, the \”Champions Dinner Hall\” for about 120 guests upstairs, the children’s \”RabbitClub,\” family apartments, and more. The new buildings were designed to appear 100 years old. The resort opened in 2013.

Adding to the golf experience are the Königin Louise 9-hole course and the Luke Ross Hall with three Trackman simulators. The nearby Gut Krakau equestrian center and FIFA-standard football training pitches, used by teams like Werder Bremen and British clubs, further enhance the resort’s sporting offerings. Grafe’s strategy uses football to boost golf and hospitality, a plan that attracted the English Three Lions to base here during the UEFA European Championship 2024.

Expanding over 450 hectares including 110 hectares of forest, the
