Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land: A Luxurious Refuge in Germany

A splendid ensemble in Germany’s green heart, Thuringia, is nearly complete with a third golf course coming soon.

Every room breathes the spirit of its owner. Rarely is the character of a living space’s owners so clearly felt as in the Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land. Located just 20 minutes by car from the cities of Goethe, Schiller, and Bauhaus-centered Weimar, the Grafe family has created a refuge where even the smallest detail reflects the founders’ quality standards and style.

A Unique Touch of Personal Hospitality

This personal hospitality shapes the entire resort’s atmosphere: from the 94 rooms and suites of the hotel and seven residential units in the family building to the LindenSpa wellness area, expanded in 2023 to 3,000 square meters with high-end offerings, and through to the seven restaurants now available at the resort.

Seven Restaurants, Two with Michelin Stars

The Masters, led by Chef Danny Schwabe, and The First by Marcello Fabbri each have held a Michelin star for years, offering French and Italian-inspired haute cuisine that makes Weimarer Land truly unique. The nearby town of Blankenhain’s restaurant, Güldene Zopf, exclusively serves Thuringian specialties. Additionally, the resort hosts an annual Culinary Open event in January, a gathering of Michelin-starred chefs at a walking dinner.

Golf Courses and Expanding Facilities

Project architect Achim Reinmuth designed the original 18-hole Bobby Jones Champion-Course, set in the picturesque Thuringian landscape once traversed by Germany’s poet Goethe. By 2012, the two half-loops evolved into the wooded, artfully bunkered 18-hole Goethe Course (5,971 meters, par 72) in the Weimar hills and the flatter Feininger Course (5,707 meters, par 71) featuring many water hazards and challenging greens. The original 6,280-meter (par 73) layout remains available for major tournaments.

The resort complex was built on the ruins of the former Slavic farm Gut Krakau: a hotel in a four-sided courtyard style, the charming golf hut housing the reception, pro shop, and ground-floor restaurant, and the Champions Dinner Hall seating about 120 people. The facility also includes a children’s area named RabbitClub and apartment houses for families. Opening took place in 2013, with a design intent to appear over 100 years old.

With the Königin Louise nine-hole course and the Luke Ross Hall featuring three Trackman golf simulators, golf offerings are comprehensive. The resort also encompasses a riding stable and FIFA-standard football training pitches, used by teams like Werder Bremen and Premier League clubs. This integration of football and golf highlights the forward-thinking vision of Matthias Grafe, owner of the resort, who aims to develop the area as a year-round destination.

Plans include building a third 18-hole golf course within 110 hectares of forest already acquired, alongside a sports hotel with 45 rooms for diversified guest needs. The Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land covers 450 hectares with multiple sports and leisure options,
