Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land: A Luxury Retreat Leaving Nothing to Desire

The splendid estate in Germany’s green heart, Thuringia, is the ultimate getaway. A third golf course is coming soon.

Each space breathes the spirit of its owners. Rarely is the personal touch of a living space’s creators as palpable as at the Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land. Just 20 minutes by car from the cultural cities of Goethe, Schiller, and Bauhaus-centered Weimar, the Grafe family has established a sanctuary where even the smallest detail reflects their quality standards and style.

A Special Note of Personal Hospitality

This distinct personal hospitality shapes the entire resort’s atmosphere: from the 94 rooms and suites in the hotel and seven family apartments to the LindenSpa wellness area, expanded in 2023 to 3,000 square meters with high-end amenities, and the resort’s seven restaurants.

Seven Restaurants, Two Michelin Stars

The Masters under Executive Chef Danny Schwabe and The First by Marcello Fabbri each hold a Michelin star, offering French-inspired and Italian haute cuisine, respectively, making the Weimar region quite unique. The nearby Güldene Zopf focuses solely on Thuringian specialties. Additionally, an annual Culinary Open in January attracts star chefs for a walking dinner event.

The Golf Courses: Goethe and Feininger

Architect Achim Reinmuth from Städler & Reinmuth Golf Design originally designed the 18 holes of what is now the Bobby Jones Champion Course, set in the gentle landscapes of Thuringia where the poet Goethe once walked 200 years ago. By 2012, the two loops were developed into the forested, artfully bunkered Goethe Course (5,971 meters, Par 72) and the flatter Feininger Course (5,707 meters, Par 71) featuring many water hazards and challenging greens. The original 6,280-meter, Par 73 layout remains as the essence and is primarily used for major tournaments.

Future Plans: A Third 18-Hole Course and Sports Hotel

Parallel to the existing courses, the resort includes a charming ‘GolfHütte’ with reception, pro shop, and dining, as well as various family and event facilities. Head Greenkeeper Andreas Bußmann maintains the courses alongside FIFA-standard soccer training fields, which have hosted teams such as Werder Bremen and English Premier League clubs Queens Park Rangers and Glasgow Rangers. The resort integrates golf with hospitality and football, with further plans to build a sports hotel on the site of a former school to accommodate year-round guests and optimize capacity.

The Grafe family has acquired 110 hectares of forest in the northeast of the resort for a third 18-hole golf course, currently undergoing approval processes. Matthias Grafe describes this third course as setting the resort apart uniquely. Their vision is to develop the Weimar region into a major tourist hub within Thuringia.
