Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally arrived last year: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a new edition. And the wait was worthwhile as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes over the course of the year, while staying in Netflix’s weekly top 10 lists. It topped the global top-10 list for two weeks and ranked in the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films that Netflix released this year, Happy Gilmore 2 was second only to “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached over 17 billion minutes streamed.
