The new TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons offer distance, forgiveness, and design in one package. Details on these new game-improvement irons.
TaylorMade introduces the new Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons, representing a new generation of game-improvement irons focused on enhancing distance, forgiveness, sound, and feel while also addressing aesthetic aspects.
TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL: The Next Generation of Game-Improvement Irons
A key development focus was the clubface. Due to its asymmetrical construction with a higher toe than heel, many game-improvement irons tend to deform unevenly at impact, which can create additional cut-spin leading to shots veering right when struck near the toe. The Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons feature a clubface designed to bend more uniformly, resulting in more stable ball launches, straighter ball flights, and high ball speed.
Sound, Feel and Internal Enhancements
Besides pure performance, feel was a major factor. Both models include a sound-stabilizing bar connecting the back bar to the topline, reinforcing the topline and reducing unwanted noise during impact.
The ECHO damping system material was also repositioned higher in the clubface to better absorb vibrations and produce a solid sound without sacrificing the desirable impact feedback. Individually optimized clubfaces and new internal structures further enhance speed and consistent distance.
Two Designs for Different Player Types
The Qi Max irons cater to players seeking distance and forgiveness in a relatively compact design, featuring thinner toplines, shorter blade length, and less offset, with the head smoothly transitioning into the hosel. Using FLTD CG technology, the center of gravity in long irons is positioned low to promote higher launch and stopping power, while it shifts upward in short irons to aid distance control. The Speed Pocket in irons 4 through 8 helps maintain stable ball speeds on low strikes.
The Qi Max HL irons prioritize maximum forgiveness with a larger clubhead profile, higher clubfaces, and thicker soles and toplines for enhanced stability and confidence. Their lofts are 3° weaker than the Qi Max, combined with ultra-light heads, shafts, and grips, which benefits players with slower swing speed by increasing clubhead speed, launch height, and stopping ability.
Fresh Design for the Qi Max and Qi Max HL Irons
Both iron models feature a bright, monochrome design inspired by the P-Series. They are available as steel versions at 183 euros per iron and graphite shafts at 200 euros per iron. Pre-orders start on January 8, 2026, with retail availability from January 29, 2026.
