KPop Demon Hunters was Netflix’s most-watched film in 2025. In second place came a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous celebrity cameos. After the original gained cult status over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes over the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Global Popularity of Golf on Netflix
Out of 39 films Netflix released in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ which reached more than 17 billion minutes viewed. This highlights golf’s growing appeal to a worldwide audience and the success of combining sports with entertainment on streaming platforms.
