Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original film had become a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter at the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record with nearly 47 million streamed minutes during its opening weekend and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It was at the top of the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Netflix’s Second Most Watched Film of 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion minutes streamed.
