After 30 years of anticipation, fans finally got the sequel last year: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler along with numerous star cameos. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. The wait paid off, as the film was one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film not only set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million minutes streamed but was also viewed over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 chart for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
