Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original film had become a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait was rewarded as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful films of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while consistently ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Global Success Among Netflix Releases
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed over 17 billion minutes viewed.
