Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC and remains undefeated.
The roles were clear ahead of the third match of the new TGL season: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC came to the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club faced their first outing of the new campaign. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive edge was gained by the team of Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, who, as often in singles format, secured four out of six possible points. After a balanced start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. “We come in here, practice, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth showed strong. It was their ninth victory in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into Play
For the second consecutive match, Chris Gotterup appeared on the scoreboard for Atlanta, once again playing a central role. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead on hole 2 with a near nine-foot par putt. The Bay quickly responded on the following holes with hammer plays, taking a 2-1 lead. The first real momentum shift came on hole 6, known as \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had evened out the match, Gotterup made a chip-in eagle to bring Atlanta back level. Although The Bay did not use the hammer, the emotional impact was clear: tie game. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting, that’s not easy,\” Gotterup said later. \”But when you make shots like that, you know what to expect.\”
