KPop Demon Hunters was Netflix’s most watched film in 2025. Second place went to a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally arrived last year: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix with Adam Sandler in the lead role and numerous star cameos. As the original had become a cult film over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. And the wait was worth it, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Netflix Records and Global Popularity
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, consistently remaining in Netflix’s weekly top 10 charts. It held the number one spot on the global top-10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of a total of 39 films released by Netflix that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second only to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which achieved over 17 billion minutes viewed.
